ZA Tech Show: Episode 26
This week Brett’s in San Francisco and joins us via Skype. Under discussion:
- The future of SSD and what it enables. Intel has some compelling offerings on the way.
- Gartner Symposium 2008 - Simon and Ben look at this year’s event.
- Duncan has the Multichoice HD PVR and gives his impressions.
- Eyeballs mobile advertising platform.
- Instant messaging and convergence.
- Cell C’s improved market performance.
- Intel’s Nehalem and Laraby processors and how they will change the game.
- Sony confirming that the PSP Phone is on the way.
- Microsoft’s planned responsive advertising campaign against the famous ‘I’m a Mac’ ads from Apple.
And more…
OK, so there briefly was a guest on this episode - Christo from ZA Car Show was it? Assuming this is a podcast too, is there a web address you can point me to?
Correction regarding the HDPVR and SDPVR: you can use both on the same account in one house. The SDPVR already has all the firmware it needs, the problem is that the HDPVR still needs the firmaware update to be locked to the SDPVR. At the moment they allow you to activate both under the honour system.
RE:ZA Car Show
Well spotted Cobus… it’s something we’re launching in the next couple of days - and we will let you know when the site goes live…
There are also some cool changes coming to zatechshow - watch this space and thanks, as always for the support!
Finally! An SA motoring podcast. I’ve been waiting for such a podcast for at least 2 1/2 years! I would of started one back then, but doing a car show requires loads of time to prepare, not to mention being a car journo is a huge plus and I think there are people out there who can do a much better job than what I could.
I’m so stoked guys! Cannot wait. So what other podcasts have you guys got up your sleeves?
Good show guys! I listen every week.
As far as instant messaging goes, I was surprised to hear Duncan refer to Google Talk as if it’s the primary chat messenger out there. Is it? Stats? Just curious because I really doubt it.
In my opinion, Skype and Windows Live Messenger seem to dominate. Ben dropped Skype but if his company didn’t block those ports, would he still have been using it?
It’s just interesting to note that what your friends use determines the chat messenger, not necessarily the functionality.
I would have loved to use universal chat messengers like Digsby and Pidgin but since none of them support Skype, there’s no point.
Hi,
Could you guys investigate why tv logos in hd abroad normally change to a watermark? i heard that this is due to plasma-lcd screen burning.. since the logo is static it can cause problems later on your tv set. and when i watched mnet HD i got a fright.. seeing that gigantic logo in the corner.. i just dont want my tv to have that logo burnt in when i change channels.. ive just noticed that all broadcasters do this now.. for the good ofcourse.

How does a mobile phone dedicated podcast sound to you Glen?
